As of NYSUT Community College's ED39 meeting last year:
Issues of Divisiveness
1) local in which DE faculty not compensated so original faculty member owns course until he or she chooses to give it up.
2) local in which 30% of all courses are online: faculty can teach entire load online but for 20% reduction in pay and benefits; these 80% DE faculty still have on-campus reqs, though, and want those campus responsibilities reduced.
3) adjunct local pressured by admin. to teach online but adjuncts refusing to do so until they get ownership of courses
4) local in which admin. controls total number of sections
5) local in which college needs to train new DE faculty but won't pay
Issues of Quality
1) local in which DE faculty get "oversize" pay per extra student, so DE faculty are packing their online classes for to "supplement" incomes
2) local in which college wants adjuncts as DE faculty but they're not represented by local so concerned about protections
3) local in which most DE courses are taught by new and "fading" faculty
